Back in January it was announced that smartwatches were something that was being worked on, and recently there was an announcement that E Ink’s Mobius flexible display will be the screen for these watches. These screens would offer a 320 x 240 grayscale, fully functioning  touch-screen panel for smartwatches. Smartwatches will be able to tell its wearers not only the date and time, but of Facebook notifications and texts as well. The smartwatch will ideally come with a Bluetooth setting, which will allow you to receive calls as well. Check out this quirky little product created by Japanese company Joybond. It’s called the Tama-chan and it is a portable mini-refrigerator/heater that is ideally shaped to keep your watermelons cool in the summer. No, that’s not a euphemism though part of me wishes it was!

Portable coolers are awesome, they help us keep our drinks cold on hot summer days (if you are lucky enough to live in a country that has hot summer days) and in Japan eating chilled watermelon in the summer is a tradition. Apparently they even have an outdoor game called suika-wari which means “splitting the watermelon”! It’s a piñata-style game where blindfolded folks attempt to crack open the juicy watermelon with a stick. So really, it’s no surprise that some shrewd Japanese businessman has thought up a device to help keep that refreshing watermelon chilled and Japanese netizens have responded well to the quirkiness of the Tama-chan too! Just a couple of days ago, the iconic Gameboy celebrated its 24th birthday, making all us 80s kids feel almost as old as when we found out that Ralph Macchio aka Daniel-san Larusso was the same age as Pat Morita aka Mr. Miyagi was when the Karate Kid was filmed.
