Google to Send Wifi Blimps Out Over Africa

Google has become much more than a simple search engine. It is now one of the most prestigious companies in existence, leading the way in many technological advancements and worldwide issues. Most recently, Google is looking towards releasing blimps over the sub-Saharan part of Africa, making wifi available to more rural towns that do not have access to Internet connections. Google has said that this project is “well-suited to provide low cost connectivity to rural communities with poor telecommunications infrastructure, and for expanding coverage of wireless broadband in densely populated urban areas”.

While this would first start in Africa – they’ll be starting small at first – Google is hoping to eventually bring this mode of wifi to Southeast Asia as well. The company has also entertained the idea of soemday building satelittes to help get wifi to more rural parts of the world.
