It’s 2012 already, science! Where’s my gel refrigerator?
This bio robot gel refrigerator is a concept design that was introduced back in 2010 for the competition Electrolux Design Lab. The creator, Yuriy Dmitriev, designed this fridge to be made up of a biopolymer gel that would not only hold your food in place, but it would keep it cool and persevered as well.
The benefits of this concept are many. The gel, which is non sticky and odorless, wraps around food items separately, creating a protective pod for each grocery and keeping it at its ideal temperature. There are no shelves or doors to worry about, and this gel refrigerator is four times smaller than a normal sized fridge, taking up less space. There’s also no motor to eat up electricity, making this concept very eco-friendly. You can place your gel fridge at whatever angle you so choose. It can be placed either vertically or horizontally, and you can even hang it from your ceiling if you wish.
While you can look at more information on the concept design at the official Electrolux site, this is (sadly) still only a concept. It may be years before we see it become an actual product, or we may never see progress at all. Hopefully that will not be the case, and one day gel fridge’s will be the norm in all household kitchens.
