Belarus Man From Brest Dies After Beaver Bite!

A Belarus man on a fishing trip has died after receiving a fatal beaver bite. The man had stopped to take the large rodent’s photograph when it pounced up and bit him in the thigh.
Unfortunately for the dude, the bite severed a main artery and his two friends could not stop the blood loss.

The man, who hails from Breast, was on a fishing excursion at Lake Shestakov when he was fatally attacked by the beaver.

Although this story has featured on several news sites, I can’t help but wonder if it’s some sort of weird hoax – a man from Brest, killed by Beaver Bite at Lake Shestakov (shest is a slang word for shit where I’m from) WTF like? I think I can be forgiven for being a little skeptical?

Aside from the silly connotations with the words, I am also struggling to see the beaver as lethal killer. Having read and loved the book Beaver Towers by Nigel Hinton as a child and remembering how Mr. and Mrs. Beaver faithfully assisted the Pevensie children and got them to Aslan’s side in the Narnia books, it’s hard to imagine the adorable little tree-chompers as a crazed critter capable of killing someone!

But apparently, IRL beaver attacks are rare but not unheard of. Last week, a wannabe David Attenborough was happily filming a little beaver trotting along a path in the Tver region, northwest of Moscow, when the creature, charged at him unprovoked! His video has become a bit of a YouTube hit.

In 2012, two girls were savagely attacked by a beaver whilst swimming in a lake in Virginia – they suffered serious bite and scratch injuries. A man in New York and an elderly woman in Washington were also set upon by angry beavers!

Beavers are the world’s second largest rodent, after the Capybara, which hails from South America. An adult Capybara can grow to up to 4.40ft in length and 25 inches in height, so you probably wouldn’t want to be attacked by one of those either!
