Are You Expecting A ‘50 Shades Of Grey’ Baby?

babyboom Are You Expecting A ‘50 Shades Of Grey’ Baby? The raunchy novel ‘50 Shades Of Grey’ by British author EL James, a 49-year-old housewife whose real name is Erika Mitchell has got everyone talking of late, the first book in the trilogy has sold 10 million copies around the world in just a few weeks making it the fastest selling novel of all time!

It traces the relationship between young college graduate Anastasia Steele and controlling millionaire Christian Grey. Steele is a virgin before she meets Grey and enters into a complex sexual relationship with him that involves bondage, discipline, sadism and masochism.

The novel constantly crops up in Facebook and Twitter conversations, with women everywhere recommending it to their friends and relatives. Interestingly male reaction to the novel has been mixed, with some appearing a little jealous that their wives and girlfriends are enjoying this erotic literature (only guys are allowed to like porn, right) whereas others seem pleased that the book seems to have inspired their partners to want to dive between the sheets!

Now an expert in Culture from Staffordshire University, Professor Ellis Cashmore has predicted that the book will actually create a spike in the number of babies born next year as a result of the increase in sexual activity!

Cashmore said: “With the millions of copies it has sold it makes complete sense to assume that in nine months’ time we are going see a baby boom. By the very nature of the subject matter I’m sure we can expect to see some couples revisiting and reigniting ideas that may have lain dormant for some time in the bedroom.”

Cashmore also said that he did not believe the book was “over the top graphically” but more that it was so popular because it explored “the woman’s mind in sexual situations.”
He described the books massive popularity as a “phenomenon” and mentioned how it was being discussed by women everywhere, in all walks of life. “It’s not a difficult equation: more sex equals more pregnancies, which equals more babies” he added.

Droves of pregnant women have been commenting on parenting and maternity websites, stating that the erotic novel has been integral in helping them to conceive and the term ‘50 Shades Babies’ has been frequently bantered about!

Despite the fact that critical reception to the novel has been rather mixed, ’50 Shades of Grey’ continues to grow in popularity at an alarming rate and rumors are rife that there will be a Hollywood adaptation hitting our screens in the very near future.

So what do you think of the novel? Have you read it? Did it help improve your sex life or help you fall pregnant? Leave a comment and let us know…
