That infamous haunted house in Amityville, N.Y has inspired the creation of 10 horror movies so far, and now the news has emerged that they will be making yet another scary movie about that bizarre old house. This time though, the movie-makers are claiming that it is the “first time ever that the true prequel to the Amityville horror will be told.”
For those of you who don’t know the history of one of the world’s most famous haunted houses, it all started in 1974, when Ronald DeFeo Jr. brutally slaughtered 6 members of his family. A year later, the Lutz family moved into the house, but they were forced to leave after less than a month because of the gruesome haunting they experienced.
The new Amityville movie is being produced by Tony DeRosa-Grund and it tells the story of two reporters who investigated the haunting for the New York TV station WNEW.
In 1976, Laura DiDio and Marvin Scott obtained permission from the Lutz family to enter the house as part of their investigation. Apparently DiDio, who was 19 at the time, conducted a séance and allegedly saw some ghostly presences.
“Marvin and I are thrilled to be working with Tony and Evergreen. I lived through this horrific ordeal and I am the only person who has the ability to tell the true Amityville prequel story in its entirety. Even after all these years, after what I personally experienced, there is nothing anyone could ever do or say to get me back in that house.”
It has been reported that the movie will be a ‘found footage’ film, with rumors that actual footage from DiDio’s séance is set to be used. Originally, that footage was thought to have been lost, but the producer has managed to track it down. The majority of the film will be based on the reporters experiences whilst they undertook their investigation into the eerie goings on at the Amityville house.
Producer Tony DeRosa-Grund said:
“They discerned certain things during the sequence, which heretofore had not been corroborated. With a lot of help from Laura and from the Catholic Church, we’ve been able to get confirmations and connective tissues, in terms of the evil and the origins of evil in the house that was there before the Lutzes moved in.”
It does sound like this movie might actually go into previously unexplored Amityville territory and I am sure horror film fans like myself eagerly await the latest Amityville terror installment with bitten-fingernails and possessed popcorn buckets!
