Chinese Dissident Artist Ai WeiWei Creates Weird Gangnam Style Parody Vid

Check out this very strange ‘Gangnam Style’ parody video created by Chinese dissident artist Ai Weiwei.

It’s an odd one because it’s not really much of a parody – it just features Weiwei and some of his buddies kitted out in pink clothes, prancing around to the original audio and with shots from the actual video interjected.

South Korean rapper Psy who made the song famous (and therefore must at least shoulder some of the blame for the many parodies and interpretations we have been subjected to), is never seen in Weiwei’s version.

At one point in the clip we see Weiwei excitedly waving some handcuffs around before attaching himself to another fellow in pink attire. We are not entirely sure what the significance of this gesture is, however we think it might be a reference to the time back in 2011 when Weiwei was placed under house arrest by Chinese police. What do you think? Do you know the real reasoning behind Weiwei’s handcuff scene? Leave a comment and let us know!
